How To Clean Your Washing Machine

How To Clean Your Washing Machine

Did you know you have to clean your washing machine? I certainly didn’t. I figured they’d clean themselves, the way a cat licks itself, but it turns out we should be cleaning our machines at least once every six months! Laundry soils, detergents and hard water minerals build up over time. Combine these with mold and mildew, and your clothes will start to smell worse on the way out then they did going in.

But don’t worry, here are some easy cleaning tips to keep your washing machine smelling fresh!

How To Clean Your Washing Machine

  1. Run a normal cycle at the hottest temperature.
  2. Once the machine is full of water, throw in half a cup of bicarbonate soda and two cups of white vinegar. This will break down grease and dirt, leaving the hoses nice and clean.
  3. Use a damp cloth with some washing up liquid to wipe down the surfaces.

  1. Soak and scrub the detergent drawer with an old toothbrush and hot water.
  2. Pour two cups of bicarbonate soda in the detergent drawer and half a cup of white vinegar into the drum.
  3. Run a normal cycle at the hottest temperature.
  4. Use a damp cloth with some washing up liquid to wipe down the surfaces.

Keep your washing machine smelling minty fresh by cleaning it regularly. Only use the recommended amount of detergent, scrub off dirt before popping in clothes, and leave the door open after a cycle so the machine can dry.

Sounds simple enough, right? Of course there’s also Laundromap. If you don’t own a washing machine you don’t need to clean it!
